About
For The Work
Why Freelance
As a freelance editor and visual effects artist, I've built a streamlined workflow designed to put more of the available resources directly into the work. With fewer layers around the process, projects can stay flexible, responsive and focused on the creative, from early development through to final delivery.
On the production side, I use simplified rates and self-built, on-the-fly quoting tools to keep estimates clear and practical without adding unnecessary complexity. The result is a leaner way of working: high-level editorial, visual effects and finishing support, with fewer moving parts and more of the budget working where it matters, on screen.
My edit process is built around getting close to the work as early as possible. Where the project allows, I edit on location with a streamlined setup that receives a live feed from camera, helping the cut stay in step with the shoot as it develops. Beyond keeping up with the schedule, this creates more useful time with the director in the first pass of the edit: seeing the decisions as they happen, understanding the context behind each take, and building a shared rhythm before the footage even leaves set.
Edit
That same approach carries through remote and in-person projects. After more than twenty years cutting on Avid, I've fully migrated to DaVinci Resolve, largely because of how quickly and intelligently the platform has developed. The Resolve workflow allows more of the project time to stay focused on the creative work itself, while also creating a more efficient path into the wider post-production process, from visual effects and finishing through to delivery.
I place a lot of importance on the first presentation. Even at offline stage, I aim for the edit to feel as complete and watchable as possible, with considered sound design, temp music, placeholder visual effects and any necessary polish already in place. It helps everyone respond to the film itself, rather than having to look past the unfinished parts.
Whether the project is small and direct or part of a larger production pipeline, my approach is the same: keep the process clear, collaborative and practical, with the work and the people making it at the centre.
